MAYA does not like to travel.

The Indonesian, who has been in Singapore for more than two years, said: “I think it is because I have been spending my life out of my country that when I’m back in Jakarta, all I want is my own bed.”

AMELIA thinks her life is a reflection of her name.

She said: “My name means industrious so my fate is pretty much decided.

“My friends call me a workaholic, but I have no intention of slowing down. This is so that I can take it easy when I’m older.”

KARYN may look sweet and demure, but she loves sports.

“I spent most of my childhood in the garden playing sports with my siblings, which explains why I have been enjoying it since then.”

She is so good at it she represented her school, Punggol Secondary.

FELECIA comes from a large family – she is the fourth of six girls.

But far from fighting for attention, she loves being in a big family.

“I love all my sisters very much. We’re unique in our own ways even though we all look alike,” she said.

SAMANTHA is the vice-captain of her school’s volleyball team.

In 2009, she was selected for the Singapore Combined Schools team.

Her love for volleyball started with her two sisters.

“Volleyball is a fun and exciting sport,” she said.

STELLA compared herself to a mimosa.

“The mimosa is known as a shy plant. It looks gentle and soft, but it folds inward and droop when touched, re-opening later again.

“This is just like how I react as a form of protection,” she said.

HUMAIRA lost her mother to a brain tumour last year.

And she is still feeling the pain.

“I kept telling myself I was prepared for it, but still couldn’t believe it when it happened – it was too soon,” she said.

JI WON is from South Korea and she is a student in Singapore.

She has lived outside of South Korea since she was seven. She moved to Singapore when she was 10.

Living apart from her family has taught her independence.

YING YI enjoys being made-up and has youthful self-confidence on her side.

She said: “I like knowing how pretty I can get! I think that being confident is not being afraid of what you are, what you have, or what others think.

“What others think of me rarely affects me.”

CLARISSA is very particular about her dressing.

“I am a fashion student, and yes, I believe it is important to be stylish,” she said.

But being well-dressed is not of utmost importance to her.
