THE FOOTBALL delivered on the pitch during last night’s match between Singapore and Malaysia at the Jalan Besar Stadium was cracking.
Qiu Li’s injury-time goal capped a dramatic comeback for Singapore, who rallied from two goals down to draw with their arch-rivals 2-2.
The match was the first of a two-legged friendly dubbed the Causeway Challenge.
But it seemed the fiery nature of the fixture got to the heads of both sets of fans even before the kick-off.
During Singapore’s national anthem, played before the start of the game, the section of about 400 Malaysian fans draped their arms over each others’ shoulders and turned around to show their backs.
And outside the stadium, even before the game got underway, Singapore and Malaysia fans clashed in what one witness called a “street fight” outside the stadium.
A Singaporean was later arrested.

It is just a game of football
It is just a game of football, no big deal. And a draw, too!
Maybe, that is a happy ending??
Sorry to say.... but some
Sorry to say.... but some people are not being fair coz they blame the
Singapore fans by saying that we Singaporean started it first.... I was
there before and after everything happen, right infront of my eyes. we
are there clapping our hands and giving a support for the Malaysian fans
but we are the one who get the blame, the punches and etc.... there are
kids who being pushed, aunty who was hit by a helmet and a few friends
of mine get the punches n pushes frm them, security being hit... not
only that I was trying to help a friend of mine frm getting hit but we
were being circled around by the malaysian fans... is that how they as a
visitor show respect to us? we respect them but we are the one getting
all this. only one question that I'm asking right now... Where are the
authorities at when this thing happens? when we shout for help there are
only a few cisco around....
Sorry to say..since shahril ishak flashing an 'L' sign to Malaysian fans at Jalan Besar during the qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup, no more respect from us..
