HE WAS flipping through The New Paper at work yesterday morning when he came across the Bingo numbers for the day.
Mr Hamdan Salleh, 32, checked them against his Bingo card and could not believe his eyes.
The five numbers he had crossed off completed the left vertical column.
He checked the prize at the top of the column, and was ecstatic when he realised it was a Samsung 46-inch 3-D LED Smart TV.
Said the technician: “I was shocked. I had to check the numbers again to make sure they were correct.”
He has been following the Bingo contest since it started, but had not imagined that he would ever win a prize.
“I thought I couldn’t win for sure as I’m not a lucky guy,” he said. “I was very surprised and happy when I saw what I had won.”
He is an avid reader of TNP and has bought the newspaper for more than 20 years.
He said: “I’ve been reading it since I was in primary school, mainly for its sports section.”
Although he has already won a television set, MrHamdan will continue to try his luck at the contest.
He said: “I’m aiming to get the cash the next time.”
TNP turns 24 today and we are raising the stakes for the contest.
Only for today, as a birthday giveaway, readers get two extra numbers to improve their chances of winning.
That is on top of the doubling of the cash prize – today’s winner stands to take home up to $4,000. The money will be shared if there is more than one winner.
TNP started the Bingo contest on July 9 to thank and reward readers during our birthday month.
To play, you need a Bingo card, which is attached to the front page of Monday’s TNP.
If you missed Monday’s issue, you can buy backdated copies from the Circulation Division located at 82, Genting Lane, Media Centre Level 2.
