Less than a week after a rail clip fell off the MRT track near Jurong East MRT station, another rail clip was found below the track near Clementi MRT station on Thursday.
The clip was found on the ground on the centre road divider below the MRT track along Commonwealth Avenue West, near the junction of Clementi Avenue 3.
On Monday around lunchtime, a metal clip fell off the MRT track from an 8m-high viaduct running above TradeHub 21 at Boon Lay Way. It narrowly missed hitting a passer-by.
In a statement, SMRT said it will be installing safety nettings at the two stretches where the rail clips were found progressively over the next few weeks.
The Land Transport Authority has asked SMRT for full reports on both incidents.

Either there is a
Either there is a manufacturer defect in the rail clip, or railroad maintenance have failed.
Safety nettings may prevent any potential human casualties by falling rail clips. BUT, that do not solve the more severe and primary problem of dislodgging rail material.
Our public transport is not to be taken for granted. Instead of relying on the operators alone, it is about time that LTA co-manage such maintenance with the operators. If the operators have only profits margin in their mind, it is time to enforce this upon them.
