Abuzz with relief

Days before National Day, rumours were swirling online about the state of former prime minister Lee Kuan Yew's health.

Yesterday, Mr Lee, 88, quashed the rumours emphatically when he appeared and took his place at the parade.

Though he seemed frail, Mr Lee's appearance gave the crowd at the Float@ Marina Bay, and Singaporeans who were glued to their TVs, a reason to cheer, and cheer they did.
