EVERY school day – from 7am to 7.30am and then from 1.15pm to 1.30pm – the stretch of Bartley Road near Maris Stella High School becomes a traffic nightmare.
Despite school reminders to parents to adhere to road safety rules and the presence of Land Transport Authority (LTA) enforcement officers, two of the three lanes of that side of the road are taken up by cars of parents dropping off their children.
Some parents drop students off in the middle of the road, forcing them to dash around and in between vehicles to get to their school, endangering their lives.
And this is a daily occurrence, parents and students told The New Paper, which checked out the traffic outside 12 schools after the death of Primary 4 pupil Lee Yu Heng. He was hit by a car outside his school in Sembawang Drive on Jan 13.
