A 72-year-old cleaner at a foodcourt was punched in the face by a patron last Sunday.
Then, on Tuesday, a 76-year-old woman was pushed out the rear door of a stationary bus.
Are elderly people losing out and losing the respect of society in the race for productivity and progress?
Thirty-six out of 45 people, aged between 50 and 79, who spoke to The New Paper on Sunday, wonder if there’s a place for them in the hearts of busy Singaporeans.

The world has become a very sad place! With old people being punched in food court and pushed off buses - what is becoming of this world? Have people lost their sanity, heart and soul? It is unthinkable to abuse old people or young children, as they are weak and unable to defend themselves! No able- bodied person should bully or abuse old people or young children. Remember that one day, the very people who abuse these weak people, will one day be old themselves - and be abused by the very society that you have allowed to behave in such ways. Only then, will the people who abused the old will get abused themselves! To avoid this, we must cultivate and teach all people to respect and care for the old. ( Except for that old auntie who verbally abusednthe young lady who gave up her seat to her - now that is a bad example of being old.). Other than that, let's have a heart and not abuse the old.
