SHE lost her mother to cancer when she was five years old. Three years later, her father died of a heart attack.
Last May, Esther Sivaprakasam was hit by a van and suffered broken ribs and collarbones and other injuries.
But Esther, now 16, is not one to wallow in self-pity.
The teen, who transferred to the National University of Singapore (NUS) High School of Mathematics and Science last year, is back on her feet and running for the school's track and field team.
The Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS) was so inspired by Esther’s story that it decided to award her a bursary in its 17th Scholarship and Bursary Awards this year. She is one of 565 students to receive a bursary, scholarship or study grant from MDIS this year.
