As more women are drinking beer, brewers are targeting them by increasing their focus on flavours and designing labels that appeal to female drinkers.
Mr Aditya Challa, 31, director and brewer of Barefoot Brewing, says: “The feedback I got is that they also don’t like to feel bloated, so we make our beers less carbonated.”
He is also producing his beers in smaller bottles for women.
Mr Challa says: “The trend of women drinking beer in Asia is growing, but very much in the infant stage compared to the UK or the States.”
The number of female visitors to Beerfest Asia has been increasing since it was first held in 2009, from 33 per cent back then to 45 per cent last year.
Beerfest Asia 2012 will be held this week from June 7 to 10 at the Marina Promenade.
