AN AUCTION at a temple in Jurong West raised close to $1 million, according to one of the auctioneers.

Bidding wars among the 6,000 guests at Dou Tian Gong Temple saw selected blessed items like a pineapple fruit basket and a 3m-long banner being sold for $13,800 and $139,000 respectively.

The auction, which was part of the birthday celebration of a local deity, was attended by MPs like Amy Khor, Tharman Shannmugaratnam and Grace Fu.
