Bike thefts up 50 per cent

Bicycle thieves have struck at least 752 times from January to June this year.

The same time last year, there were only 492 reported cases. That is a shocking 50 per cent increase.

The bicycles were largely stolen from HDB estates and other public areas like bicycle bays near MRT stations.

In contrast, the other crime categories, including housebreaking and violent property crimes, all saw a decrease in the number of cases.
