Thousands thronged the Malayan Railway (KTM) station yesterday to witness the end of a chapter in Singapore's railway history.
The KTM moves to the Woodlands Train Checkpoint from today as Singapore assumes ownership of 26km of railway land south of Woodlands following a breakthrough land swop deal with Malaysia last September.
When the last train pulled into Tanjong Pagar Railway Station at about 10.30pm yesterday, the crowd cheered enthusiastically.
Younger passengers had even come prepared with party poppers and drinks and had a party onboard the train.
