At this year’s Chingay Parade, a group of student performers caught Mr Jimmy Chan’s eye.

Standing backstage, the young dancers of different races were dressed in identical costumes, a sight which reminded the 33-year-old of Singapore’s multiracial community.

He got them to pose for this photo, which he felt symbolises “Racial Harmony” -- the theme for the Big Picture contest.

Mr Chan’s photo impressed this week’s judges and he won the $500 prize for the Big Picture, a year-long contest organised by The New Paper and the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts to encourage Singaporeans to document their city through photographs.
