Close to 500 wreaths, and counting

Submitted by Pradip Kumar Sikdar on June 13, 2012 - 1:33am

Wreaths lined the whole stretch of road outside the funeral parlour, at the funeral wake of Indonesian tycoon Liem Sioe Liong, who died in Singapore on Sunday. He would have been 96 next month.

The number of wreaths stood at close to 500 on Tuesday (June 12) and more were expected. Said one worker: "We put until we got no space."

The grandeur of the occasion, at Mount Vernon funeral parlour, went even further - a fully air-conditioned marquee, a valet service for visitors who had driven there and a buffet spread catered by Mandarin Orchard.

Family members, meanwhile, paid tribute to the late tycoon's character, values and legacy.
