Cops break down woman's door to end 2-and-a-half hour stand-off

On Thursday morning, some residents of Block 537, Hougang Street 52 woke to a drama taking place inside a flat on the sixth storey.

A 49-year-old woman had holed herself up in a room with a pair of scissors. Her husband said that his wife suffers from mental illness.

The stand-off eventually ended at 9.20am, about two and a half hours after it started, to the sound of screams and loud bangs - the authorities had broken open the woman's bedroom door.
