On average, 18 cyclists died every year from 2008 to 2011, Parliamentary Secretary for Transport Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim said in Parliament on Monday (Sept 10).
And half of the cyclists involved in fatal and injury accidents were partly at fault, he said.
But cycling lanes on roads is not the way the authorities are going.
Instead, said Dr Faishal " We will continue to give priority to our efforts to develop off-road cycling paths to facilitate intra-town cycling.”
Meanwhile, another bicycle had been offered to the National Parks Board before it bought 26 Brompton bicycles for $2,200 each earlier this year. The offer was for a $2,500 bike, from the same bike company that won the tender.
National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan revealed this in Parliament on Monday.
