He rushed home from work on Thursday afternoon to find that a fire had burnt many of his possessions to a crisp.
To make matters worse, Mr Philip Wong noticed that several of the items in his Clementi flat, including more than $7,000 in cash, were missing.
Besides the cash, he said, the items missing included three watches – one of which was worth more than $2,000 – and two rings.
The fire had apparently started in the master bedroom, and spread to the living room, kitchen and another bedroom before it was extinguished.
Mr Wong, 57, a warehouse supervisor, said he suspects that his items were stolen and that the burglars had set fire to the house after the burglary to dispose of any evidence left behind.
