Two years ago, local rapper Shigga Shay - real name Pek Jin Shen - was still struggling to find traction within the local music community. Some critics slammed his American accent. Others told him to stop aping rappers like Eminem.

But the 20-year-old is starting to make waves - in a good way.

Let’s Roll, the first single off his recently-released debut EP They Call Me Shigga, recently made it into the Top 20 chart on 987FM, and a quick scroll through comments on Pek’s videos on YouTube shows support for the rapper.

Pek will be performing on Friday (May 25) alongside local and international musicians at a music festival at Clarke Quay.
