A fire broke out in the utility room of a three-room flat at Block 63, Kallang Bahru, at about 10am yesterday (Aug 16).
There were no casualties thanks to two heroes - one human and one animal.
Seven-year-old poodle Wang Wang's barking woke up its owner, Mr Teddy Tay, 62, who had previously had a stroke, and his sleeping son.
They escaped from the blaze in their flat in time with the help of the other hero, Mr Latiff Hamid, who helped Mr Tay down from the flat.
Mr Latiff, 23, an off-duty police officer, tirelessly ran up and down the block, warning his neighbours of the fire and getting them to turn off their electrical appliances. He also led down two children who had panicked and remained in their ninth-storey flat.
