A number of calamitous calls from officials in recent weeks has increased demands for video technology, but Chelsea's "ghost goal" against Tottenham in the FA Cup semi-final must surely be the straw that breaks the dinosaurs' backs.
Referees are human. They make mistakes. The one made by Martin Atkinson in awarding Chelsea their second goal when Juan Mata's shot had been cleared by Benoit Assou-Ekotto was a whopper.
But his error pales when compared to the blunders continuously made by the ancient relics passing themselves off as football oracles at the top of the game's exclusive power structure.
Don't blame officials. Blame the outdated bumbling bureaucrats at Uefa and Fifa, who continue to straitjacket referees and leave them at the mercy of an angry mob after every incorrect decision.
