ONE teen’s passion for drumming has unwittingly led to an online debate about foreigners getting preferential treatment.

The posts about the drumming started on a web portal on Sunday and have been shared more than 1,360 times on Facebook.

The first post reflected the views of an angry resident. However, when The New Paper visited Block 608, Choa Chu Kang Street 62, yesterday, none of the residents who spoke to us was unhappy.

The boy's parents are originally from the Philippines and became Singapore citizens two years ago, but at least one post mentioned residents being "harassed by Pinoy neighbour".

Even Member of Parliament Alex Yam ended up being criticised by netizens for appearing to be sympathetic towards the family when he tried to mediate.
