Durian war gets prickly on weekends

A price war over durians has started at Block 183, Toa Payoh Central.

After a 13-year monopoly, fruit stall Fruit Top 1 is facing new competition from Metro Trading, a durian wholesaler, who opened just a week ago.

Over the last weekend, prices for packets of durians fell to as low as $1 each.

Customers have been flocking to Toa Payoh Central, and the price war is slated to be at its most heated over the coming weekends.
