The estate was in total darkness

He was on his way home from work with his wife last night when he was greeted by an unfamiliar sight.

As he drove into the carpark near his home at Block 516, Serangoon North Avenue 4, at about 9.30pm, Mr Sunny Lim, 59, saw that most of his neighbourhood was in darkness – it had been hit by a mass blackout.

The shipping coordinator and his wife, Ms Juliet Koh, 57, had to take the stairs to their flat on the 16th storey.

A spokesman for SP Powergrid confirmed that power supply was disrupted in parts of Serangoon North Avenue 4 at about 9pm last night.

Supply to the affected area was fully restored by 9.47pm, the spokesman added.
