When he was five years old, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Daniel Tan (above), now 40, slapped the wrist of a man who pressed every button on a lift they were in.

Today, Mr Tan is still working to ensure that things are done the right way.

He is the commander of Central Police Division, which covers an area of 27 sq km, including Chinatown, Little India and the financial district.

With 1,000 people in his team, he has to deal with hardened criminals, protect our tourist spots and ensure that major events such as the Formula One race are conducted safely.
