With nearly 70 per cent of tickets already sold, the 2012 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix is on course for another sell-out.

Speaking yesterday at the announcement of SingTel’s plans for bringing this year’s race to the heartlands, Michael Roche, the executive director of race promoters Singapore GP, revealed they had already sold out “five or six” categories of tickets.

This year’s street race, which will be held in the heart of the city along Marina Bay from Sept 21 to 23, is the final one under the five-year contract signed between race promoters Singapore GP and Bernie Ecclestone’s Formula One Management company, the rights holders of the event.

The contract included a two-year option, which has been taken up and means Formula One’s only night race will continue at least until 2014.
