Two days after a man drowned in Lower Seletar Reservoir, his family is still trying to understand what happened, even though they had accepted his death.

Police said Mr Sylvester Yong, 27, had jumped into the reservoir on Tuesday to retrieve documents which had fallen into the water. The documents belonged to a female friend.

He managed to put them inside his pockets, but struggled and did not make it out alive.

At his wake in Yishun yesterday, Mr Yong’s older sister and mother said they were surprised over his death as he had been a swimmer since young and was also an avid scuba diver.

His mother, Madam Diana Lim, 52, said: “...we as a family want to know what really happened so we can have peace of mind.”
