TNP'S Neil Humphreys outlines the five reasons that allowed City to come out tops in the Manchester Derby:

FORTUNE FAVOURS BRAVE: Roberto Mancini discarded the Italian penchant for defensive play with a team set out to win, while United played not to lose.

STRONG CASE FOR DEFENCE: Against stereotype, City defended in United’s half with their terrific fullbacks, Pablo Zabaleta and Gael Clichy, forcing themselves down the flank at every opportunity.

KOMPANY JUST LIKE KEANE: Belgian Vincent Kompany skippered a resolute defence in denying United a single shot on target for the first time in three years. He also popped up with the winner, too.

NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN: United's three wise men of Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Michael Carrick met their match in Manchester. Gareth Barry and Yaya Toure were effective and ruthless.

FIGHTING THE FEAR: For two decades, United practically patented fear management. They owned it. Fearlessness was their forte. Not anymore, perhaps. Confidence are now coursing through City's veins.
