Football in heartlands is this week's winner

When he saw children playing football at a public housing estate at Rochor, Mr Tommy Chan realised he had found what he wanted to shoot for this week’s Big Picture contest, organised by The New Paper and the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts.

The contest theme was “Heartlands” and called for pictures of everyday life in Singapore’s neighbourhoods.

Agreed one of the judges: "Kids playing football at HDB blocks is as heartland as they come."

Mr Chan, 33, an operations manager, spent an hour watching the children before finally snapping his winning photo.
