Foreign workers in fake degree scam

A GROUP of Chinese workers were jailed four weeks each in a scam that involves fake degrees.

But it's also a familiar story of unscrupulos recruiting agents back home, shady transactions and broken promises.

While some of the workers were farmers back home, they landed jobs here as cleaning supervisors with degrees in hotel management from Jiangsu University, Shandong University, and Henan University.

On Sept 13 and 14, 18 of the 37 were charged with providing forged certificates to obtain work passes to work for TY Enterprise and Sun Blue Cleaning Maintenance.

In June, The New Paper reported that the cleaning firm was being probed by the Ministry of Manpower for submitting false salary information in work pass applications.
