The English Football Association is going to the right place in its search for the next Three Lions manager, but it might be going for the wrong man.

North London is bearing witness to a minor managerial miracle, a coach maximising his resources without ever compromising his playing principles.

The trouble is he's making Harry Redknapp look less appealing than Steve McClaren cowering under an umbrella.

Arsene Wenger afforded himself a wry smile yesterday morning (Singapore time), when asked to comment on Arsenal's resurgence after leapfrogging Tottenham into third place following their 1-0 away win over Everton.

As the dreamy distraction of the England dugout continues to weigh down on Redknapp like an impending court case, Arsenal have been liberated.
