Former DPP charged with having sex with underage girl

He was a deputy public prosecutor for seven years. Then, he set up his own law practice in the 1980s.

Yesterday, Spencer Gwee Hak Theng, 59, was charged in court with having sex with an underage prostitute. The Vietnamese girl was 16 at the time of the offence.

He allegedly paid $300 for sexual services from the girl at a Geylang hotel last July.

Gwee, who has been divorced since the mid-90s, spoke about the experience of being on the other side of the law and how he hopes his ex-wife and 24-year-old daughter can "bear with the pain".
