A SilkAir pilot accused of punching a taxi driver told a district court on Tuesday that it was the cabby who lunged at him.

Pilot Ajmer Singh, 46, who took the stand on the second day of the trial, is accused of hurting Mr Chua Hock Kwee, 57, at a coffee shop in Changi Garden Condominium at Upper Changi Road North at around 7pm on May 8, 2010. Mr Chua had filed a magistrate's complaint against Singh.

Singh, who is chairman of the SilkAir branch of the Air Line Pilots Association Singapore and also a member of the condominium’s management committee strata title (MCST), said that he had put his hands up to block the attack.

Mr Chua, who was drinking with a friend, Mr Yong Fah Nam, then fell and hit his head against Mr Yong’s right shoulder.

Singh also revealed that he had made a magistrate's complaint against Mr Chua in July, 2010.
