Mr Ng and his brother run Heng Heng Food Suppliers, a Bukit Timah minimart that also offers a personal grocer service.
Between Mondays and Saturdays, maids working in wealthy households place their orders on behalf of their employers, typically before 1pm. By 6pm the same day, the stuff will be delivered.
The accents of foreign maids add to the challenge of the job, says Mr Ng.
"Baygon can sound like bacon," he says, explaining that on one occasion, the insecticide was bought when the meat was requested.
