A DAY that was supposed to be filled with fun ended in tragedy.

William, a 15-year-old Indonesian schoolboy, was walking with his friends along flooded Mandalay Road when he fell into a drain. It happened so quickly that his friend Bryan Lee, 14, said his friend didn't even have time to scream.

After a seven-hour search, William's body was found under a bridge at Whampoa Road.

The find drew a wail from a woman believed to be the boy's mother while a man, believed to be his father, collapsed after he had to identify the body.
