The stage was dark except for strobe lights that went on and off as part of the performance.

But 42-year-old freelance photographer Suhaimi Abdullah managed to snap a photo of a production by an Argentinian group which was part of the Night Festival, an arts and cultural event last month.

His photo won this week’s Big Picture Contest theme “Festive City”, a year-long contest organised by The New Paper and the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts to encourage Singaporeans to document everyday life in the city.

For the next fortnight, send us photos that show Singapore’s “Kampung Spirit” and stand to win $500.
