When she finally discovered that he was dead, Chinese national Hu Ping Zhu, 43, could only hope that her son Lin Xiao (above), 23, could be retrieved whole.

However, even that remains dashed - half of his body has yet to be found.

All Madam Hu has left of her child are his rotting remains - which were discovered in Bedok Reservoir on June 20 - encased in a frame of bamboo pieces structured to look like him in order to give him a decent funeral.
