The name Lee Hock Seng stands out on the list of members of the Ceylon Sports Club (CSC).
The club is mainly dominated by people from the Indian sub-continent, especially those with links to Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon.
But members of the 84-year-old Balestier Road club saw nothing unusual and unanimously elected Mr Lee as a committee member on June 24.
The 61-year-old gold trader, who has been a member of the club for 25 years, is the first Chinese person to sit on its management committee.
Mr Lee said he decided to join the committee as he felt that he could offer a different perspective during discussions, and that it was time for him to give back to the community at CSC and to serve the members.
