At the People's Action Party (PAP) rally at Hougang Stadium on Sunday night, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean spoke about the age difference between PAP's candidate Desmond Choo (above), 34, and Workers' Party's Png Eng Huat, 50.
WP chief Low Thia Khiang had said at his party's rally on Saturday that he is fielding an older candidate because he is more steady, and solid and has more life experiences. However, DPM Teo pointed out that Mr Low seems to have "changed his tune" as last year, the WP had picked a young candidate, Mr Yaw Shin Leong, who was 35 then, to stand in Hougang.
DPM Teo also said that Mr Choo's youth was an asset, calling him "energetic" and "full of ideas".
Mr Choo, who spoke after DPM Teo, said that Hougang residents have become his family, and, win or loss, he will continue to serve them.
