In an exclusive interview with The New Paper on Sunday, Ms Saw Phaik Hwa, the ex-chief of rail operator SMRT says resigning was her own choice.

The 57-year-old, whose last day at the company is April 5, says the decision was a difficult but necessary one.

She also addresses other controversies surrounding her, including a photo of her seated on a sedan chair which went viral, as well as a comment that implied Singapore trains are not crowded.
