The owner of photography studio The Pond was on his way from the Esplanade to The Festival Village of the Singapore Arts Festival 2012 when he spotted a sculpture of the word "fun" with a barricade around it.

Mr Tan Ngiap Heng, 46, shot a picture of it with his iPhone and it was eventually picked as this week's winner for The Big Picture, a year-long contest organised by The New Paper and the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts.

Said Mr Tan: “It struck a chord with a lot of people. Many commented that this was what fun feels like in Singapore, never truly free."
