Retiree Ling Inn Kwee had forbidden his son Samuel Ling, 25, from flying.
He told The New Paper: “I was against him flying. I wanted to do something else, contribute to society in other ways instead of flying.”
But the younger Mr Ling had dreamed of being a pilot since he was three and he kept his family in the dark when he took lessons at a Johor flying club.
He earned his private pilot’s licence and started flying solo last month, but he died on Sunday when the plane he was piloting crashed in Johor.
It was only then that his father knew that his son had gone against his wishes.
