THE legendary "Kung Fu Panda" has its followers, and one of them was in action at Wuhan Zoo in China last week.

A panda named "Hope", caught and killed a blue peacock that invaded it's territory. CCTV News reported that peacocks have been flying over the three metre high fence which safeguards the male panda at the central china zoo. The enclosure of the peacocks and Hope are separated by 20 meters.

Mr Chen Jun, the zookeeper, said: "People usually think pandas are tame and gentle. But they are omnivores and they do eat meat."

He added that he found Hope to be exceptionally excited that morning.

CCTV footage showed Hope hunting down his blue prey and biting its neck. The panda did not eat the peacock, but played with its lifeless body before walking away.

This is the first time a panda was reported to have killed another animal.
