He claimed he was hit so many times that he cannot remember how many blows landed on him.
Mr Leow Kok Hui, 43, was a taxi driver when David Mark Papkin, an American holding permanent residency here, allegedly assaulted him. Mr Leow told the court on the first day of the trial yesterday that he was hit with an umbrella until it broke.
Papkin, 48, a former Singapore Polytechnic lecturer, is accused of voluntarily causing hurt to Mr Leow shortly after midnight on April 14 last year.
The trial continues today.
If convicted of voluntarily causing hurt, Papkin could be jailed up to two years and fined a maximum of $5,000.
