Grandma gets PhD after 12 years

THIS 65-year-old grandmother’s road to academic success was a long one.

For 12 years, she travelled more than 300 kilometres from Singapore to her Malaysian campus to attend classes on weekends.

Two weeks ago, Dr Alimah Lob, an adjunct Malay-language teacher from Bowen Secondary School was conferred a doctor of philosophy (PhD) from Putra University, Malaysia.

Why pursue further education at such an advanced age?
