Last Saturday, 70 gold bars worth about $4.3 million went missing from Brink’s Singapore, a company which provides secure transportation and logistics services.

But within 12 hours of the brazen heist, the police had arrested a man at Changi Airport Terminal 3. The man was believed to have been trying to leave the country.

It appears that Brink’s Singapore had realised that the gold had gone missing and had alerted the police. It is not clear if the gold bars -- each weighing 1kg and worth between $65,000 and $70,000, based on rates on the United Overseas Bank’s website -- were recovered.

Yesterday, Teo Wen Wei, 28, was charged with abetting Jonas Tan Teck Leng in committing theft of 70 gold pieces, valued at about $4.3 million, at 7.30pm last Saturday.
