A 22-year-old man who allegedly punched a woman in Jurong West on Tuesday and then stole her mobile phone was nabbed with the help of three members of the public who were nearby.

The men - two of whom were former Singapore Sports School silat exponents - heard the woman's cries and helped chase and subdue the suspect. The suspect has since been charged in court.

This case involving public-spirited members of the public was one of two highlighted by the police at a press conference on Wednesday (June 20).
