Minister for National Development Khaw Boon Wan has no quarrel with National Parks Board’s (NParks) choice of the $2,200 Brompton bike for its staff, but it may have got a better price if there had been more participation in the bike deal.
He said this in a blog post yesterday. He also said that the Brompton bicycle was the right equipment.
Some Singaporeans, including netizens, have questioned if the bicycles were too expensive. NParks bought 26 of them.

$2,200 per bike is a luxury. This is tax payers money. For $2,200, Npark can buy 26 similar bikes from NTUC Fairprice. Were tenders or quotations called? I wonder why Minister Khaw has such expensive taste. Well I guess high pay goes with high taste. I'm a poor old man. I had a $85 dollar bike which lasted me for 8 years before I sold it off for $20 due to knee problems. During the 8 years I only needed to changed the tyres , brake cables and brake pads.
Expensive butts need
Expensive butts need expensive bikes. Even electric bikes do not cost that much and to say "Brompton bicycle was the right equipment." is too much. Why is the Minister promoting Brompton bicycles?

Good bike, but not worth the price!
Cheaper alternatives are available.
We aren't no biking nation, hence cheap alternatives should have been the main option.
Tour de France isn't even followed here. No bike lane on our roads either. Only in parks.

When it is so obvious that the money is not well spent. Even school children can sense that. I am very puzzle when the min is still trying to defend. When majority of Singaporeans are against it, so it can't be wrong.
Are these bikes the correct
Are these bikes the correct equipment for the job? Now the police have bike squads. Are the bikes the police use anywhere different in price and quality? $2200 for some foldable bike is too expensive
