Her unconditional love for her son, despite her own condition, struck a note with many.

After The New Paper highlighted the plight of Madam Lily Ng and her son this week, more than 80 readers have flooded our e-mail inbox with offers of help.

Some wanted to give cash donations, while others wanted to give milk powder for Madam Ng's son, Mr Edwin Chew, 26, who suffers from muscular dystrophy, a condition in which his muscles waste away with time.

Madam Ng, 52, has severe scoliosis herself, a condition where the spine curves and becomes progressively worse.

Despite her own pain, Madam Ng takes care of Mr Chew's every need – from brushing his teeth to feeding him and taking him to the toilet.
