Seeing their neighbours looking stunned and helpless behind a locked front gate as a fire raged in the Jurong flat, the men jumped into action.
After alerting the authorities, they filled pails with water to try to douse the flames and two of them burnt their hands trying to unlock the gate.
When they did, they helped five of the six members - one of whom had to be carried - to safety.
For one of the heroes, it was not the first encounter with fire - his Little India restaurant went up in flames due to a kitchen explosion. He was fined earlier this month for safety violation.
