MP for Chua Chu Kang GRC Low Yen Ling was the most prominent of the four newcomers in the Singapore Table Tennis Association elections on Saturday at the Singapore Sports Council.
The 38-year-old former Dunman High paddler was elected as one of the national sports association's two deputy presidents for the next two years, with incumbent president Ms Lee Bee Wah retaining the post she's held since 2008 without contest.
Both women were coy when asked by the local media if Ms Low will eventually succeed Ms Lee.
Among other priorities, the new committee will need to rejuvenate the national women's team, which clinched bronzes in the singles and team event at last month's London Olympics, with paddler Wang Yuegu's retirement and coach Zhou Shusen's impending departure.
